CNN Anchor Reminisces About Attending Flooded Texas Camp In Heartbreaking Report
CNN anchor Pamela Brown returned to flood-ravaged Camp Mystic, where she was a camper as a girl, and gave a heartbreaking report on Sunday about her personal connection to the Texas youth retreat. (Watch the video below.)
Flash-flooding has killed at least 82 people, including several from Camp Mystic in Kerr County. A counselor and 10 girls remain missing from the camp, which was essentially swallowed by the Guadalupe River after it reportedly rose 20 feet in less than 2 hours due to intense rain.
“It’s surreal coming back here 30 years later,” Brown said. “I was a 10-year-old little camper here, full of so much hope and joy. It’s a magical place, and I remember the excitement and anticipation of coming to Camp Mystic.”
She continued, “I’m overwhelmed with emotion, and I’m overwhelmed with memories. And I can’t get over looking at those cabins right next to the Guadalupe River. That river was the source of so much joy and fun for us.”
Brown reminisced about an inflatable they would use as a springboard into the river, and looking for “dinosaur fossils.”
“That is what we loved,” she said. “To think that same river is the source of this devastation, it’s just hard to wrap my head around. And it’s such a magical place that now, all these girls, these sweet young campers, who had to evacuate and their families. So much innocence has now been lost. And I just can’t help but think about them and pray for them and just hope that more are found alive.”
Brown also shared a photo of her old camp charm bracelet that reads, “I ❤️ CAMP MYSTIC.”
