Progresso Unveils 'Bizarre' New Way to Enjoy Soup That Firmly Divides Fans

Progresso has created a unique new snack for soup fans called Soup Drops, with fans divided about the strange product.

The Soup Drops are hard candy drops made in the flavor of Progresso's classic Chicken Noodle Soup. The drops are sold in a can designed like the brand's regular soup cans, with 20 individually wrapped candies. It also comes with one can of Progresso's regular Chicken Noodle Soup.

"When you’re sick, nothing is truly more reassuring than Chicken Noodle Soup. So, we thought, why stop at the soup bowl?" said MC Comings, VP, Business Unit Director for Progresso at General Mills. "We took the beloved flavors of our Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup and packed them into a fun, savory candy Soup Drop for a totally new way to enjoy the taste you love whenever and wherever you want.”

The Soup Drops are available on ProgressoSoupDrops.com for just $2.49, plus $0.99 for shipping. Unfortunately, the first round of Soup Drops sold out quickly. But fans can rest assured that they'll have another chance to buy them soon.

Progresso plans to drop more Soup Drops each Thursday of National Soup Month at 9 a.m. ET.

Fans online shared their thoughts on the interesting new Soup Drops, with one fan on Reddit writing, "Whaaat. Ok I'm interested. How bizarre," while another simply said, "Yuck."

"Sold out. It’s in my calendar for next Thursday lol," wrote an excited customer.

"Candy soup? Sounds awful," someone else wrote, while another joked, "This is straight out of Willy Wonka’s factory."

Meanwhile, yet another Reddit user pointed out, "They're just rebranding bouillon cubes."

Hopefully, anyone interested in trying the soup-flavored hard candy can successfully get their hands on some during the next drop on Thursday, Jan. 23.
