Longtime NFL pro Aaron Rodgers is set to extend his professional football career by signing a one-year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, just months after he was let go by the New York Jets in a move that left a cloud of doubt hanging over his future.

The 41-year-old quarterback is understood to have inked a deal with the Steelers on June 5—and is expected to attend the team’s mandatory minicamp next week, according to ESPN, which notes that Rodgers will likely be a member of the starting lineup when the season commences.

Rodgers previously had an illustrious career in the NFL, but struggled during his time with the Jets, having torn his Achilles tendon in the first week of the 2023 season, only to suffer a run of humiliating defeats with the team the following year.

As a result, questions remain about how valuable an asset he will be to the Steelers, with ESPN’s NFL analytics expert Seth Walder suggesting that Rodgers “hasn’t played good ball since 2021.”

Still, the veteran QB’s knowledge and expertise could prove to be a useful weapon in the Steelers’ arsenal—provided he’s able to remain fit and healthy throughout the season.

Rodgers’ move to Pittsburgh also raises one other question about his life away from the field—namely, whether he will commit to laying down roots in the city and opt to give up the $10 million New Jersey mansion he purchased when he signed with the Jets.

The football pro’s purchase of the mansion came in August 2023, just weeks before the Jets kicked off their season, with records indicating that he bought the dwelling via an LLC, paying $9.5 million for the opulent abode, which had originally been listed for $11 million.

Located in Montclair—just 10 miles from the MetLife Stadium, the Jets’ home field—the property provided a convenient and comfortable sanctuary for Rodgers during his time with the team, while also offering proximity to New York City.

His high-end home boasted every manner of amenity a celebrity of his caliber could wish for, starting with an open floor plan that featured eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.

Highlights included an impressive kitchen with three sinks and an island with bar seating. The living and dining areas are spacious and luxurious, and the primary suite offers a spa bath and impressive views of the New York City skyline.

There’s also a lower-level lounge, media room, wine cellar, an in-law suite, and a home gym.

Rodgers may also have been lured in by the solar roof panels, which should help bring down his energy bills, along with the three-car garage equipped with an electric-vehicle charging station.

Sitting on over 2 acres, the home features a large patio area as well as room to add a pool in the future.

If he opts for a rental, there is a stunning estate on the market for $45,000-a-month.

The upscale home is just a mile from the town of Upper Montclair, and a 157-acre county park—Mills Reservation—sits nearby.

Newly built, the home hit the market in May 2023 for $11 million and lasted 23 days before going into contract at $9.5 million.

The reduced sale price was something of a deal, according to Christen Sachs with Nest Seekers, who noted at the time that Montclair had limited inventory, with many homes selling as soon as they hit the market.

Given the property’s approximate 10,000 square feet of living space, the home closed at roughly $950 per square foot.

Of course, Rodgers had a larger budget than most. Although he reportedly took a pay cut to join the Jets, it’s still believed he entered into a deal of upward of $75 million over two years, so purchasing his Montclair retreat likely didn’t put too big a dent in his bank account.

The question now is whether Rodgers is willing to make a similar investment in the Pittsburgh area—where homes tend to be much more affordable than in New Jersey.

Still, there are currently several very luxurious mansions on the market in Allegheny County, where a number of the team’s top players have chosen to reside over the years, including a stunning $7 million dwelling that boasts six bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and three acres of land.

Should Rodgers choose to rent, this $45,000-a-month eight-bedroom, eight-bathroom estate located an 18-minute drive from the Steelers’ stadium may catch his eye.
