Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially engaged!

The pair announced the news on Aug. 26 via an Instagram post, which showed several snapshots of the pop singer and her NFL player partner standing in a garden after Kelce popped the question. The "Cruel Summer" artist captioned the post "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” followed by a firecracker emoji.

The post also gave fans a close-up of Swift's ring, which Kelce designed with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, per Vogue. It is a brilliant-cut diamond bezel-set in gold.

Swift included the song "So High School" in their post. The song, which is about a romance that makes Swift feel like a teen again, includes the lyric "You know how to ball/I know Aristotle," which many fans believe to be about her relationship with athlete Kelce.

Kelce proposed to Swift weeks before the pair revealed their engagement to the world, Kelce's father, Ed, told News 5 Cleveland — and revealed the pop star was getting "maybe a little antsy."

"Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago," Ed Kelce said. "He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event. And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event ... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you."

When Kelce did ask Swift to marry him, it was in a garden at his home in Lee's Summit, Mo, according to Ed Kelce.

"He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, 'Let's go out and have a glass of wine,' ... they got out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful," Ed Kelce said. "They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."

In a clip from the New Heights podcast, Kelce's brother Jason wished the couple a happy engagement, calling it "the proposal heard 'round the world."

The engagement marks the latest milestone in one of pop culture’s most closely followed love stories. The couple first sparked dating rumors in 2023, after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed he’d tried — and failed — to give the singer a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it during her July 2023 Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, Mo.

"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," Kelce said on a July 2023 episode of his New Heights podcast. "So I was a little butthurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her."

The story quickly went viral, and by late September, Swift was spotted cheering him on at a Chiefs game. Their whirlwind romance soon became a media sensation, with Swifties and NFL fans alike tuning in to every public outing. That included Swift joining Kelce on the field when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in February 2024 and Kelce taking the stage with Swift for her song "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" on a June 2024 Eras Tour stop.

Swift and Kelce have publicly gushed over each other in the media. In Swift's 2023 Person of the Year Time magazine interview, she said of her then boyfriend, "When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she said at the time. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other."

In an August 2025 GQ interview, Kelce echoed the sentiment, saying about his romance with Swift, "When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love. It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out, but I would say that it’s as normal of ... It happened very organically even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked. It still happened very organically.”

Recently, Kelce helped Swift announce her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. She dropped the news on the podcast he shares with his brother, Jason Kelce — and along the way gave "Swelce" fans an inside look into their relationship. That includes how Swift felt after learning of Kelce's failed friendship bracelet saga.

“I was like, if this guy isn't crazy — which is a big if,” Swift said, “this is sort of what I've been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.”

He may not have been able to put a friendship bracelet on Swift's wrist — but, hey, at the end of the day, he did put a ring on her finger.
