Korea Box Office: ‘My Daughter is a Zombie’ Holds No. 1, ‘Ballerina’ Debuts in Third

“My Daughter is a Zombie” maintained its grip on the Korean box office over the Aug. 8–10 weekend, earning $5.9 million from 840,484 admissions.

According to KOBIS, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council, the film has grossed $22.7 million since its July 30 debut. Directed by Pil Gam-sung, the film is based on the webtoon of the same name. The comedy follows a doting father who embarks on a top-secret training mission to protect his daughter – the last remaining zombie in the world. The film features a star-studded cast including Cho Jung-seok (“Pilot”), Lee Jung-eun (“Parasite”), Cho Yeo-jeong (“Parasite”), Yoon Kyung-ho (“The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call”), and Choi Yu-ri (“Alienoid”). The film set a 2025 opening-day admissions record, surpassing “Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning.”

In second place, Brad Pitt racing drama “F1” added $2.6 million, bringing its cumulative total to $28.1 million. New entry “Ballerina,” a “John Wick” universe film, debuted in third place with $802,732 and has a cumulative total of $1.3 million.

South Korean animated biblical tale “The King of Kings” took fourth with $584,541, lifting its total to $7.8 million. In fifth, “Smurfs” debuted with $415,200 and a cume of $586,174, followed by “The Bad Guys 2” in sixth with $352,867 for a $1.9 million total. Fantasy action “Omniscient Reader” placed seventh, adding $188,686 for a $7.1 million cume.

Debuting in eighth, horror title “The Ghost Game” opened with $191,527. Directed by Son Dong-wan, the high-teen mystery horror follows Ja-young (Yeri, aka Kim Ye-rim), a high school student haunted by guilt over her missing sister. Along with friends Dong-joon (Lee Chan-hyung), Gi-ho (Seo Dong-hyun), Ye-eun (Oh So-hyun), Mi-yeon (Kim Eun-bi), and Seo-woo (Park Seo-yeon), she stages a séance for a YouTube challenge in an abandoned cistern – only to unleash terrifying supernatural forces.

Japanese hit “Detective Conan the Movie: One-Eyed Flashback” earned $161,290 for a cumulative $4.9 million. Rounding out the top 10, Celine Song’s “Materialists” opened with $139,755.

The top 10 films collectively grossed $12.3 million over the weekend, down from $15.2 million the previous week.
