Disney's Reveals Permanent Closing Date For Fan-Favorite Attraction After 27 Years of Operation
For millions of fans across the globe, Disney's Animal Kingdom boasts an eclectic lineup of endlessly worthwhile attractions, from the fast-paced thrill ride Expedition Everest to the far more educational Kilimanjaro Safaris.
Nestled somewhere in the mix is the similarly well-loved attractions featured in the DinoLand U.S.A. area of the park, including the long-running dark ride, Dinosuar.
Though it's long remained one of Animal Kingdom's most popular rides, Disney has since confirmed Dinosaur will soon be removed from the park's property, with the company recently announcing a closing date for the beloved attraction.
According to Disney World's official website, the final day of operations for Dinosaur will be February 1, 2025. The very next day, the ride will permanently shut down to make room for the park's new Tropical Americas-themed land, which will replace DinoLand U.S.A. as part of Disney's upcoming expansion plans for Animal Kingdom.
Originally dubbed Countdown to Extinction upon its opening date on April 22, 1998, the attraction was soon renamed Dinosaur to coincide with the 2000 animated film of the same name.
On the company's website, Disney describes Dinosaur as "a perilous prehistoric race to rescue a dinosaur—before the meteor strikes."
"Board a rugged Time Rover vehicle and set off on a thrilling adventure through a primeval forest filled with life-like dinosaurs," Disney summarized of the ride experience. "Careen through unpredictable hairpin turns. Dart around a fearsome Velociraptor hunting for prey. Avoid the clutches of a Cearadactylus soaring overhead!"
"As the clock counts down, fiery meteors crash down around you," the company continued. "Will you make your escape before the dinosaurs—and you—become extinct?"
In addition to Dinosaur's permanent closure, Disney has also announced the final dates for the remaining DinoLand attractions, with the Dino Institute Shop, Restaurantosaurus and the Restaurantosaurus Lounge all set to close on February 1.
